2004 Sale Wrap-Up Bull sales are a rancher's answer to a social event, and we had a nice crowd of people who came to look at the bulls, enjoy hot roast beef sandwiches and visit with their fellow cattlemen. The auctioneer, Tracy Harl, kept everyone entertained from the auction block, and the sale progressed as smoothly as possible, concluding shortly after 3 p.m.. In the office, Carol Wright and Tonya Kraye, were busy getting everyone settled up and answering any questions that people had. Christel Smith, John's cousin, from Eustis, was extra office help and she was in charge of the Bull Buyer Drawing! Lewie Jacobson from Tryon was the big winner, and he chose the cash reward, over the round of golf, at the Sandhills Golf Club. Edwin Halliwill, from Merna, won the drawing for the mineral donated by B&B Enterprises and Cargill Mineral. The sale average was $2290, on 101 lots. The top selling bull was Lot 40, purchased by Duane Kime of Nenzel Nebraska. Chris Vinton of Whitman, Nebraska bought Lot 60 for $4,250, and Y Six Livestock Inc. purchased Lots 2 and 15 for $4200 each, plus Y Six was the volume buyer. Bowman Farms Inc. was also a volume buyer and took five bulls home to Maquoketa Iowa. Featured in this year's sale were 23 sons of B/R New Frontier 095. New Frontier stands out as the performance leader among the 036 sons. He is the only 036 son who is above .85 accuracy for birth and weaning weight, with a below breed average birth EPD, while still being among the top 1% for milk, 2% for scrotal, 4% for IMF and 15% for REA. For the past three years, New Frontier 095 has been one of the most widely used sires. Also featured in this sale offering were eight outstanding sons of New Design 878. 878 continues to set records, due to customer satisfaction. He has proven to be one of the most consistent bulls in the industry, siring thick topped, attractive calves, with complete performance profiles. 15 sons of Vermilion Dateline 7078, were included in the sale. These bulls have what it takes to perform and excel, carrying on the traits of their sire, with substance, muscle and length. All of us at Kraye Angus would like to say thank you to everyone that attended the sale. We have every faith that the bulls will work well in your cattle breeding programs. Feel free to contact us, if you have any questions, comments or problems. We look forward to seeing you all next year, on the last Monday in February, which will be the 28th. Sincerely, John and Julie Kraye and family
